Our Firebird® pickup may look like a mini-humbucker without poles, but it’s truly its own thing! The unique Firebird® is designed to sound closer to a fat single-coil than a full-size humbucker. Compared with a mini-humbucker, it features a brighter overall sound and a bass response that remains tight and defined noticeably longer. It also gives you less snarl and more spank.

The imperfect, perfect pickup

I’ve had this pickup for around a year in an hss Warmoth strat build (this pairs wonderfully with the 64’s). This pickup has changed my playing for the better all while having some incredible issues. Upon receiving the pickup, I thought it was broken. It hummed almost like a single coil, I could hear every time I moved the pickup switch, if the pick touched it it would make a loud pop through the speakers. I even had a sound guy one time tell me he could hear me speaking through my guitar channel, he thought it was cool anyways. When I confronted lollar about the issues they told me, that’s how it’s supposed to be. I was a little angry and wanted to send the pickup back, then I spent some time with it. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a touch sensitivity like this pickup has. It has all the midrange grit I could ever want while also being incredibly clear and blending perfectly with the other pickups. I found myself playing on the bridge even in the quietest parts of songs because I could control exactly what I wanted so well. Whatever I breathed into this pickup is exactly what it produced. The imperfection of this pickup is what makes it amazing. I don’t think you can get the perfect touch response, clarity, and grit without having the issues this pickup has. It’s a marvelous design and I am so happy lollar produces such a wonderful product, thank you!

a wonderful neck pickup with just the right balance for what I was looking for. VERY responsive to your touch and attack. You can pull out bright biteiness or nice full round notes just the same. I have it in the neck of a tele parts guitar with a Special T from 2017 in the bridge. Ash body, rw fb, middle of the road not too bright or dark sounding guitar. I tried a couple of different wiring options but after the first two, I quickly realized that 250k pots and regular ole wiring would probably be just fine. And it most definitely is. I’d even hesitate to throw it in a brighter guitar, but that’s just my taste. Bottom line, it’s fantastic.

I recently purchased a new Firebird from Gibson’s Original Collection. While the original pickups had a nice cut to them, as a prior reviewer stated, the pickups (in particular the bridge) had an unpleasant upper mid-range bump to it. After reading many people praise the Lollar pickups, I decided to give them a shot. The guitar was seriously transformed, and it is much sweeter and pleasant sounding now. No ugly upper mid bump anymore. The tone is also much tighter and cleaner (both with clean and overdriven tones). Clean tones have a nice jangle to them, but crank the gain and these pickups sing (very smooth lead tone!). I own over 20 guitars and this is now one of the best sounding of the bunch.

Amazing pickups I bought to replace the stock pickups in my 2016 Gibson Firebird. Lightyears better than that original pups and the neck pickup in particular is one of the best tones I have ever heard. Real open and big sounding pickups. Cannot recommend enough!

The BEST sound you can get for your Firebird

I replaced the stock bridge (and will eventually do the neck) on my 2014 Firebird. If anyone out there plays modern Gibson ‘birds, you’ll know the stock pickups are ceramic, and have this really strange low-mid bump like you’d get from a 500T, but nowhere near the output to match the tone. This pickup (as well as replacement tuners for the stock gearless ones) took my Firebird from a studio-only guitar to my main axe. The bridge has all that great single-coily tone you want from a Firebird with that smoothness from the sudo-mini design. If I had a Peavey amp, I could do a perfect Allen Collins.

I have this pickup in the neck positionI’d have to describe as a clean, somewhat traditional jazz tone. Tight and focused sound, full of nuance, WARM! This is an incredible pickup !
